Edinburgh firm CASC Whisky secures UK rights to Lord of the Rings single malt

The Edinburgh importer is taking pre-orders for Ringbearer at £89.99, and The Lost Close beneath the Old Police Chambers will be the only place in the UK where the whisky can be tasted.

Edinburgh-based CASC Whisky Ltd has secured the exclusive rights to import and sell Ringbearer in the UK. The officially licensed single malt was created to mark 25 years since The Fellowship of the Ring had its world premiere in London’s Leicester Square in December 2001.

Pre-orders opened on 23 October 2026, and the whisky can be bought in the UK only online, at pokenowhisky.co.uk. A 700ml bottle costs £89.99, and bottles will ship between December 2026 and January 2027.

Tastings underground

The Lost Close, a hidden close beneath Edinburgh’s Old Police Chambers, will be the only place in the UK where fans can taste Ringbearer. It plans a whisky experience and a series of Ringbearer events themed around the films in January 2027, the month of J.R.R. Tolkien’s birthday. Dates have not been confirmed, capacity will be very limited, and the venue is taking sign-ups at thelostclose.com/ringbearer-whisky for news of events and ticket sales.

“Bringing Ringbearer to the UK, and making Edinburgh its home, is a dream for us,” said Chris Cusiter of CASC Whisky Ltd.

Katie Scott, head of events and experiences at The Lost Close, said: “Our January events will be a real celebration of the films, and of a remarkable dram.”

The whisky

Ringbearer is distilled by Pōkeno Whisky in New Zealand, where the film trilogy was made, in partnership with the licensed collectibles maker Syzygy Forge. It is made from 100% New Zealand barley, aged for at least six years and matured in first-fill bourbon, virgin oak and French Muscat casks, plus casks seasoned with Manuka honey, which the distillery says is a first for whisky. It is bottled at 46% ABV in packaging inspired by the maps of Middle-earth, and is for adults aged 18 and over.

CASC Whisky Ltd is an independent whisky bottler and importer based in Scotland. The Lost Close was discovered during excavation works in 2019 and is what remains of a close destroyed in the Great Fire of 1824.
